MTA Arts for Transit

A Faceted Glass Project for Parkchester Station.

William has been involved in the design and creation of a faceted glass project for the Parkchester subway station in the Bronx NY.  The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) has contracted William Low as designer and Erskin Mitchell Stained Glass (http://www.emitchellstainedglass.com) as fabricator.

The project involves the Parkchester Station which is being revitalized under a capitol improvement fund/Arts for Transit program.  The community will enjoy upgrade of the station facility along with two 11 foot high murals designed by William Low.  The murals have been fabricated by Erskin Mitchell in his Baton Rouge, Louisiana studio.  The murals will be put together in the station by placing 20 stained glass panels for each mural (25″ by 29″) stacked together.

In March 2011, the finished glass panels for this mural were shipped from Erskin’s studio in Louisiana to the Bronx NY subway station.  The contracting crew, MTA Arts for Transit project managers, Erskin Mitchell and William oversaw and completed the installation of these 2 murals.  The Parkchester neighborhood now is home to these 2 large graphic representations of their community designed by William Low.  William grew up near this subway station in the 1970′s – so the project is a one that is near to his heart.
